Former president Bill Clinton set up the William J. Clinton Foundation, which was set up to promote and help diminish a number of humanitarian and social causes, within the foundation the Clinton Foundation HIV and AIDS started. This initiated works to make the treatment of HIV/AIDS more affordable and to have it distributed on a large scale of cure, treatment, and prevention programs.
Bill Clinton has helped with many humanitarian problems; the Clinton Global Initiative that was funded by the Clinton Foundation was established in NYC to coincide with the 2005 World Summit. The areas that were focused upon by the foundation included addressing world problems such as public health, diminishing poverty, and settling ethnic and religious conflicts.
The united nation secretary, Ban Ki Moon, asked former US president Bill Clinton to assume a leadership role in coordinating international quake relief on February 3rd, it seemed appropriate as the former president had already been deeply involved in Haiti as a United Nations Special Envoy before the earthquake had ever struck, Clinton was instructed to take full command of the situation in Haiti. Providing strategic guidance was one of the long term goal needed for the recovery and reconstruction of Haiti.
In 2009, Clinton emphasized the effect that the economic recession had taken on charities and pointed out that those who had been charitably giving are now donating less due to the fall in money value. He also added that now most of the local and smaller charities will have to broaden their donor bases and in the meantime try to be more efficient and competitive with the smaller amounts of cash coming in.
The Clinton charity takes an active step towards health problems, poverty illiteracy and racism. However, on a brighter note Clinton’s charity has abundant finance to go on with their day to day services and goals. Clinton’s charity receives finance from foreign governments all over the world, it is the bigger picture that his charity is trying to fix including other aims are, economic development and climate changes for poorer countries. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Brunei were amongst the many donors that helped to keep the cash flowing in constantly in 2008.
Due to his status and standing, Bill’s organization finds it easy to raise funds. On the first day of his Clinton Global Initiative Asia summit which was held in Hong Kong, donations rose to a shocking $95 million USD! The money is spent with the aim of improving poverty, fighting disease, making education better and available, and also making the environment and economic development better in developing Asian and African countries.
Founded in 2005, Clinton’s Initiative’s members have made almost 1200 commitments valuing in at $46 billion, it has improved 200 million lives across 150 countries. Bill Clinton’s compassion and charitable giving are some of the qualities that make him a great leader, his restless efforts towards the social and humanitarian needs of the world continue to expand and proceed.
